The pleasure of reading…..

Firstly Happy New Year to all my fellow bloggers and welcome to my very first blog in 2019. As a fresh start i thought of writing about a topic which we all can relate so much. It’s very important and should be a part of our daily life. As a new beginning we all have to retain its value which has reduced among the new generation so far. It’s all about READING. The importance of reading, it’s values and the disadvantages of not reading.

There is a famous quote in Malayalam:

Vayichalum Valarum Vayichillenkilum Vallarum,

Vayichal Vilayum Vayichillenkil Valayum……….

by Kunjuni Mash, which means we will grow up any how, with or without any knowledge but if you want to reach higher, the only way is through good knowledge that you gain through reading. Otherwise you will be misguided and will be stucked in your life without knowing what exactly is happening around you. This is a beautiful poem which is a part of our curriculum so we all knew it since childhood but are unaware about its meaning which later on came to know how deep it was and is relevant for now and for ages. It’s a poem that describes the power of reading.Reading in a sense of active interest in it, not just like completing the whole page of a book in order to show others or to count the number of books you completed, just like passive reading, where you read the words without going deep into the books. It’s just a waste of time. There will not be any benefit in such readings. Active Reading is what i am talking about. The actual pleasure of reading comes only then ,were you go deeper into the lines, you understand more and more thus became super exited to complete it as fast as you can. This is what the poet is conveying-The importance of reading. Reading ultimately gives us an entry into the borderless unlimited world of knowledge which help you to shape you character, to think in a different way and also it improves our communication and language skills. Most importantly reading increases your general knowledge by which you will have the confidence to face the society, speak in front of a large audience and to handle any situation that you came across.

It also improves our writing skills as well. As bloggers we all knew how important it is for us. Some times we strive to get those exact words while writing. For me as a homemaker my reading habit has reduced a lot by which i am facing its consequences as well. When i step out an knew something which is completely new for me, from others, i will be like ‘ oh….! is it ‘ ‘but why’ ‘ when’ ‘where’ etc….which makes me so bad…It’s only because of the lack of reading. May be some of you had faced the same as well. Do comment me if so☺.

Also due to the development in technology a persons reading habit has reduced significantly. Nowadays people are so busy with their lives that they are not getting enough time for reading. Screen addiction is the major cause for this. Most of the time they spent in front of the T.V,laptop,mobilephone…ect….due to which they don’t read much. Mainly the young generation are showing much ignorance when asked to read. We hear a lot of issues about the teenage children’s and the problems they face due to which they are stucked in certain situations, i think reading will bother them to a limit and will help them not to stuck in such problems. Because of their age they don’t understand the value of it that it cannot be replaced by any other thing in the whole world.
So reading is always a pleasure. If you start enjoying it you can’t stop it. You will definitely make it as a habit. Reading is an absolute relaxation for our mind which reduces stress a lot. It also improves our concentration and develops our imagination too which is why our thoughts are travelling to various levels.
When you make it is as a habit you became an active reader and you start aiming to learn something other than getting finished. If you are not a good reader you will find difficulty in everything. Your language will go worse, understanding of languages will get diminished, cultural ignorance from the society will be there, your literacy skills will decrease mainly it makes a person less smart and will have to go through so many limitations in life and much more….
Once again reminding you all about the beautiful lines by the famous Malayalam poet (which i mentioned above)we can definitely say that in every aspects reading should be a part of a persons daily life. It gives you immense knowledge and increases your life experiences.

Reading can never harm anyone it always help you to lead a better life……..

Until next time…….

Be happy and stay positive….

  1. This was definitely on point. Gone were the days when children would be so excited to go to a bookstore and pick out fresh releases. Most of them won’t bother to go out anymore. Technology has definitely changed our way of life. 😢

    Thank you for this 😊

  2. I’m impressed, I need to say. Actually rarely do I encounter a weblog that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me inform you, you’ve got hit the nail on the head. Your idea is outstanding; the problem is something that not sufficient individuals are speaking intelligently about. I’m very glad that I stumbled across this in my seek for something referring to this.

  4. I am a literature student. I took literature as my study material simply because of my reading habit. But when I joined in my college, 1 interesting thing that I noted is that books are often read by people who pursue their studies in other subjects than in literature. See the irony out there. Then I understood the reason why it is happening. It happens because they don’t feel for it. When we read something, just do it for its own sake ‘reading for reading’s sake’.
